What patients usually describe
You do not need all of these. One or two persisting for months is reason enough to look properly.
How this pattern is read
Ayurveda distinguishes between someone who is well-built and someone who is obstructed, and treats only the second. In Sthaulya, excess medas — fat tissue — physically blocks the channels, so nutrition cannot reach the deeper tissues. The result is the paradox patients describe constantly: eating little, still gaining, and permanently tired. The body is simultaneously overfed and undernourished. This is why restriction alone fails and why the treatment targets the obstruction and the digestive fire rather than the calorie count. Hypothyroidism and insulin resistance fit this pattern closely, and Ayurvedic treatment sits alongside thyroid replacement rather than attempting to displace it.
How treatment is structured
Rebuild digestion before restricting
Cutting intake when agni is already weak produces more residue, not less. Digestive correction comes first, almost always.
Clear the obstruction
Udvartana, specific Guggulu preparations and lymphatic work address the blocked channels that make the tissue unresponsive.
Fix the eating window
One properly digested midday meal beats three poorly timed ones. Most patients change their timing before they change their food.
Load-bearing movement
Prescribed to the level your current strength allows, and increased in steps. Aggressive exercise on a depleted system backfires.
What is realistic, and by when
Energy and post-meal heaviness improve in the first three to four weeks, usually before the scale moves at all. Sustainable weight change runs at two to three kilograms a month and depends heavily on sleep. Thyroid values, where they move, take three to six months.
See a doctor promptly if you have
- Rapid unintentional weight loss
- Weight gain with severe swelling or breathlessness
- Very high fasting sugar or HbA1c
- Untreated or newly suspected thyroid disease
