Women's Health & PCOS

Cycle irregularity, PCOS and perimenopausal change are approached through metabolism, stress and digestion together.

You do not need all of these. One or two persisting for months is reason enough to look properly.

How this pattern is read

The menstrual cycle in Ayurveda is downstream of two things: metabolism and Vata's regulation of movement and timing. PCOS is read predominantly as a Kapha-medas disturbance — sluggish metabolism, accumulation, obstruction of the channels — very often with a Vata component driving the irregularity of timing. Painful periods are usually Vata; heavy or hot periods usually Pitta. This framework maps unexpectedly well onto what endocrinology describes as insulin resistance, and the treatments overlap: improve metabolic function, reduce obstruction, regulate routine. Ayurvedic care here works best explicitly alongside gynaecological and endocrine management, not instead of it.

Approach

How treatment is structured

1

Work on metabolism first in PCOS

Insulin sensitivity, sleep and meal timing move the cycle more reliably than anything applied to the reproductive system directly.

2

Regulate the routine

Cycle regularity responds to consistency — sleep, meals and exercise at the same times. This is unglamorous and it works.

3

Targeted formulations

Shatavari, Ashoka, Kanchanar Guggulu and Dashamoola have distinct roles. They are matched to whether the pattern is obstruction, depletion or heat.

4

Coordinate, do not compete

Reports, existing prescriptions and your gynaecologist's plan are all taken into account rather than dismissed.

What is realistic, and by when

Cycle regularity in PCOS typically takes three to six months and follows metabolic improvement rather than preceding it. Dysmenorrhoea often improves within two cycles. Perimenopausal symptoms respond gradually over three to four months.
