What patients usually describe
You do not need all of these. One or two persisting for months is reason enough to look properly.
How this pattern is read
Ayurveda reads the skin as an output, not an organ in isolation. Recurrent inflammatory conditions are attributed to disturbance in rakta — the blood tissue — usually driven by Pitta, and fed upstream by digestion that is producing more residue than the body can clear. This is why topical treatment brings a condition down and it returns, and why Virechana, which acts on the liver and small intestine rather than on the skin at all, is the classical treatment for eczema and acne. Hair follows a different logic: hair quality is considered a by-product of bone tissue and is closely tied to Pitta and to overall nutrition, which is why hair fall so often accompanies periods of stress, illness or restrictive dieting.
How treatment is structured
Look upstream
Digestion and elimination are assessed first. Skin that flares alongside constipation or reflux is telling you where the treatment belongs.
Cool and clear the blood
Bitter herbs — Manjistha, Neem, Sariva, Guduchi — work on rakta. This is slow, unglamorous treatment that works.
Remove the trigger foods honestly
For most inflammatory skin conditions the list is short and specific rather than a blanket elimination diet. Fermented foods, excess salt and sour, and curd at night account for a surprising proportion of flares.
Virechana where appropriate
For established eczema, psoriasis or hormonal acne, purgation in the right season often achieves what months of topical treatment has not.
What is realistic, and by when
Acne typically responds in six to eight weeks. Eczema and psoriasis take three to six months and often worsen briefly before improving. Hair fall stabilises before it reverses — expect three months before you see regrowth, if regrowth is possible at all.
See a doctor promptly if you have
- A rapidly changing or bleeding mole
- Widespread blistering or skin peeling
- Skin symptoms with fever and joint pain
- Sudden patchy hair loss with scalp scarring
